: I spoke only German when I was five (als ich fünf Jahre alt war konnte ich nur deutsch), but lost most of it as my German mother emphasized speaking only English, not realizing we’d forget German quickly at that age. So I have an ear for German but am adding vocabulary mostly now, and need to speak more (understand intermediate German but speaking skill is behind). Now I am determined to regain German.
