If Korean particles seem illogical, the problem may be how we were taught to see them. Korean often works without particles at all. A relation can be expressed first, and only when one part needs to stand out does a particle help turn it into a new center. That is why 은/는 and 이/가 are more than “topic” and “subject.” But don’t worry—real Korean is forgiving. A few clear nouns and verbs are often enough to begin communicating. |
